About Winery and Wines
Riofavara is a family-run winery located in the Val di Noto area of southeastern Sicily, in the heart of the Nero d'Avola region. Established in 1920, our winery became a dedicated wine-producing company in 1994 under the leadership of Massimo Padova. His vision, driven by passion and dedication, was to produce "territorial" wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of our land. Nestled between Syracuse and Ragusa, our 16 hectares of vineyards benefit from the warm, breezy climate and limestone-rich soil of this region, which impart distinct flavors and aromas to our wines. Over the years, we have integrated modern winemaking techniques with traditional practices, embracing organic and biodynamic farming principles to respect both the environment and our heritage. Our small, hands-on team, including Margherita and Clementina Padova, warmly welcomes visitors to the winery and shares the story of our wines with passion and care.
Our wines are a direct reflection of the land from which they come, each one capturing the essence of the Val di Noto region. Specializing in Nero d'Avola, our wines are crafted using organic and biodynamic methods to preserve the natural qualities of the grapes. The limestone soils and Mediterranean climate give our wines a unique minerality, depth, and freshness. From rich, full-bodied reds to elegant whites, each bottle embodies our commitment to sustainable winemaking and our love for this land. Our wines, many named after the local territories they represent, are an authentic expression of the region's traditions and unique terroir, delivering the taste of southern Sicily to every glass.
