Sallier de la Tour

Tenuta Sallier de La Tour lies among the gentle hills of Camporeale, cradle of the Monreale DOC. Since the mid-19th century, it has belonged to the princely family of Camporeale and is distinguished by its elegant Liberty-style winery buildings, constructed in 1909.

Today, the Estate is part of Tasca d’Almerita’s project to promote Sicily’s diverse terroirs and is led by Costanza Chirivino, a descendant of the family. Just a short distance from Palermo, this Estate offers the tranquillity of the countryside: an ideal destination to explore local wines and flavours, but also to visit the area’s many cultural landmarks, such as the Monte Jato Archaeological Park—with its settlements dating back to Magna Graecia—or the celebrated Monreale Cathedral, a UNESCO Arab-Norman World Heritage Site.

The Sallier de La Tour project was created in 2008, the year Filiberto Sallier de La Tour, Prince of Camporeale, a man of the countryside and passionate romantic, asked his Tasca d’Almerita cousins to take care of his estate, a few kilometers from Palermo.

At Tenuta Sallier de La Tour, Tasca d’Almerita has chosen to focus on Syrah, studying this grape variety from both agronomic and production perspectives.

At first glance, using an “international” grape like Syrah might seem to contradict the goal of preserving local identity. However, the philosophy here is that certain well-established varieties can effectively express the unique character of a specific territory. In this case, Syrah has proven capable of interpreting the nuances of the Monreale DOC area, gradually developing its own distinct identity. This is a long-term process that requires patience and consistency, with each vintage contributing to the final expression of the wine.

Today, the work at Tenuta Sallier de La Tour is reflected in three different interpretations of Syrah. Alongside this project, the estate also cultivates native grape varieties such as Grillo, Inzolia, and Nero d’Avola, further enhancing the connection to the local territory.
