San Giorgio a Lapi
About the Winery
San Giorgio a Lapi winery, located just 6 km from Siena, is a family-owned estate steeped in history and tradition.
Founded in 1977 by Ermete, a descendant of a long line of Trentino winemakers, the estate spans 70 hectares at the border between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. The winery embodies a unique blend of Tuscany and Trentino, where ancient knowledge meets innovative agronomic and oenological practices. The winery’s diverse range of products includes wines with significant structure, a rich bouquet, a luxurious passito, and exceptional olive oil. Each product reflects the harmonious complexity of the estate, deeply connected to the land and its rich cultural heritage. The family, comprising 6 siblings guided by their parents Aldo and Fiorenza, oversees the entire production process, ensuring that every element of San Giorgio a Lapi is characterized by authenticity and a genuine connection to tradition.
About the Wines
In 1999, inspired by the complexity of the land, Mattia, the eldest brother, initiated his own line of wines, beginning with Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. In 2000, Bandecca, a Chianti Classico Riserva, was created to capture the elegance and authenticity of Sienese Sangiovese—a wine that is deep, sincere, and welcoming. The Fiore di Maggio wines, introduced in 2001, offer a simple, drinkable structure, perfect for casual meals. Ermete, a Chianti Riserva, honors the family's heritage with a blend of Sangiovese and Teroldego, showcasing firm tannins and a bold, sensual character.
The latest additions to the portfolio include Empathia, the first Gran Selezione Chianti Classico without added sulfites, which brings the purity of the harvest to the palate, and Rosato, a refreshing wine ideal for a summer aperitif among the vineyards.

Outstanding
The setting for the wine tasting and lunch is beautiful, under this giant mulberry tree that provides ample shade and lets the Tuscan breeze cool the whole place.
Lunch was fabulous with strawberry gazpacho, pasta with cherry tomatoes (mind you, I’m not a pasta person) and pork so tender that you could almost cut it with a fork; this we enjoyed along with the wines produced at the winery, which were very very tasty.
The whole experience was one the best ones we’ve had in this trip.
Thanks to all the kitchen staff and in particular to Bene, our wonderful tour guide.
Grazie e arrivederci !!!
