Tenuta MonteRosola
About the Winery
MonteRosola was built in the 15th century, originally as a fortified outpost of Pignano Castle. It later became a homestead for three to four farming families, producing mainly olive oil, wine, and grain. It is therefore fair to say that wine and olive oil have been produced at MonteRosola for around 600 years.
The hills surrounding Volterra rise above 600 meters and are windswept for most of the year. The character of the soil and the estate’s unique microclimate (terroir) are particularly well suited to wine and olive oil production, thanks to the healthy growing conditions. Intensive manual work in the vineyards and olive groves is complemented by modern agricultural technologies to achieve the highest quality standards.
Both the vineyards and olive groves are currently being expanded, with the introduction of both traditional and new grape and olive varieties. A new gravity-flow Eco-Cantina has also been built.
Monter osola’s vineyards are located between the world-famous wine regions of Chianti, Bolgheri, and Montalcino, where the terroir provides an optimal environment for producing first-class wines. The estate’s wines embody the rich and vibrant character of Volterra’s diverse landscape, offering complex notes that make them highly distinctive and desirable.
