Tenuta Tenaglia

Nestled among the rolling hills of Piedmont, Tenuta Tenaglia is a historic estate where tradition and passion for winemaking come together. Its story begins in the 1600s with Giorgio Tenaglia, a bold mercenary captain from Mantua who dreamed of establishing his own viticultural retreat in the fertile lands of Monferrato. Here, he cultivated Barbera, his favorite wine, and transformed the estate into a winemaking haven.

Although Giorgio left no heirs, the vineyards and historic cellar—untouched since the 17th century—continued to flourish. In the 2000s, the Ehrmann family from Germany was captivated by the beauty and rich winemaking heritage of this land. Drawn to the magnificent landscape and outstanding wines, they fulfilled their dream of producing high-quality Italian wines by acquiring Tenuta Tenaglia.

Today, the estate remains a symbol of Monferrato’s viticultural excellence, with its vineyards forming a natural amphitheater around the historic manor house and cellar, preserving the legacy of centuries of winemaking tradition.

Tenuta Tenaglia’s portfolio celebrates the great wines of Monferrato, with 80% of production dedicated to Barbera grapes. Our wines range from fresh, stainless steel-aged everyday Barbera to the prestigious Superiore versions, aged in French oak barrels for added depth and complexity.

We follow integrated farming protocols (SQNPI) and apply strict grape selection at harvest, ensuring that each vintage truly reflects the tradition and excellence of Italian winemaking.
