Tunia
About the Winery
Tunia was founded in 2008 by Francesca, her brother Andrea, and Chiara, driven by their shared enthusiasm.
The estate is located in the Val di Chiana, in the province of Arezzo, where we passionately and skillfully manage 25 hectares of vineyards and olive groves.
In the vineyard, organic farming is our guiding principle, and in the cellar, we work as naturally as possible. Our aim is to intervene as little as possible: only native yeasts, no fining, filtering, or stabilizing. In short, no shortcuts.
This approach stems from our desire to produce wines that are true expressions of the grape, the land, and the vintage from which they come.
About the Wines
In the Etruscan pantheon, Tunia was the deity invoked for the proper ripening of fruit. This is where the name of our estate comes from—an estate where old vineyards of Sangiovese and Trebbiano, planted in 1970, are the heart of our work, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted in 2005.
A small portion of the Trebbiano has been grafted over with Vermentino. Completing the picture are 600 olive trees of the Leccino, Moraiolo, and Frantoio varieties.
Our plants thrive in the lush greenery of the Tuscan hillsides. Just behind the estate stands the Castle of Dorna, a Lombard complex with a centuries-old winemaking tradition.
Our vineyards and olive groves are bordered by forest and by a stream, the Chiassobuio, which gave its name to our first red wine.
Over the years, other wines have followed: the skin-contact white Chiarofiore, and two more reds, Contrappunto and Cantomoro.
To these we’ve added Sottofondo, our bottle-fermented sparkling wine; Passatempo, a very traditional sweet wine; and a small but excellent production of extra virgin olive oil.
