VERDERAME BOUTIQUE WINERY

Winery in Etna

About the Winery

Verderame Boutique Winery was born out of a desire to restore the beauty of the historic terraces and revive the wine production that had fallen into decline over generations. Located near Etna and Passopisciaro, the estate traces its origins to the late 19th century when Remigia Camardi, a descendant of the Vigo family, married Michele Leonardi, establishing the original Moganazzi estate. The estate spanned about four hectares and was primarily used for wine production. However, over time, the land was divided, and much of the vineyard fell into disrepair.

Driven by a passion for reviving the family's legacy, the current generation undertook a meticulous project to restore the vineyard. A philological study was conducted among the historic terraces, known as "razoles," to accurately recreate the original planting pattern from the late 1800s. This involved laying hundreds of meters of wire and ensuring the new vineyard matched the exact original layout.

Verderame Winery practices "heroic" cultivation on the challenging volcanic terraces of Etna, limiting the yield to just one kilogram of grapes per plant. This respect for the land and the vintage results in wines that truly reflect the terroir and the dedication of the vineyard. The winemaking process focuses on preserving the integrity of the vintage, with minimal intervention in the cellar.

Verderame's wines are crafted with time and care, embodying a deep connection to the land, the history, and the generations of winemakers that came before. Each bottle tells a story of commitment and passion, offering a sensory experience that reflects the unique characteristics of the vineyard and the surrounding terroir.

About the Wines

Verderame Boutique Winery is a true expression of the volcanic terroir and the unique characteristics of its district, particularly in the Moganazzi area on the northern slope of Etna. The vineyards are located in Passopisciaro, an area known for its exceptional wines. The estate is divided into distinct terroirs, with vineyards positioned at varying altitudes, creating a diverse range of expressions within the wines.

The philosophy behind Verderame’s winemaking is rooted in the "philological" approach, a method that connects five generations of family care for the ancient vineyard. This approach involves meticulous attention to the vineyard’s original planting layout, dating back over 150 years. By preserving this structure, the winery remains faithful to the history and heritage of the land, producing wines that tell the story of their territory.

In the cellar, steel and carefully selected wood are used to ensure that the true character of the vine is expressed, allowing the wine to reflect the natural qualities of the grapes and the land. The flagship wine, Filologico, embodies this philosophy, showcasing the vineyard’s rich history and the family’s dedication to maintaining the traditional viticultural practices of the region.

We did a tasting at the Verderame estate. The owner is a truly exceptional person and above all his passion for his work is immediately perceptible! The wines and the oil are also excellent! I absolutely recommend it

Relax
The owners are helpful, kind, welcoming. All in all I had a good time, the food was good quality, nothing to say about that.
But it's not a winery, it's a house in the countryside; you can't call it a winery yet. I had booked because I thought there was a winery, I had my guest from abroad who had never seen a winery, and there was only one room in the countryside.
And in the end, after buying 2 bottles of wine, I had to add more money for the appetizer that I was served. Basically I paid too much for what was offered.
(For next time, say that there is no winery) However, the Rosé was excellent.

Gentile Salvatore,

Verderame Boutique winery

Wonderful experience
We were welcomed directly by the producers, who introduced us to their winery and, after a visit to the vineyards and the palmento, we had a wonderful tasting in a picturesque location surrounded by the vineyards. We tasted two Etna cru wines accompanied by a platter with a lot of variety. Fair price for the experience. Recommended.

Wonderful experience
Wonderful experience at the Verderame winery.
The family that welcomed us made the experience even more beautiful by explaining to us in the best way the whole history of their winery, making us feel their passion for their land and their wines.
They offered us a platter of local cured meats and cheeses and tomato bruschetta, all accompanied by a detailed and precise explanation of their wines.
The panorama is unique, like the Verderame winery.
Highly recommended for those who want to live a 360-degree wine experience, welcomed by very kind people ready to satisfy your every need.
