Vigna Cunial

Winery in Lambrusco, Food Valley, Hills of Parma

About the Winery

Founded in the early 2000s, Vigna Cunial is a family-run, certified organic winery spanning approximately 30 hectares, with 15 hectares dedicated to vineyards on the picturesque hills of Parma, in the commune of Traversetolo. Committed to producing natural, organic wines, the estate follows agronomic practices that respect the microbiological balance of the soil, water, local ecosystems, and the natural rhythms of life.

The vineyards, situated at elevations between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, are planted on highly calcareous, marine-origin soils that impart a unique mineral character and complexity to the wines, distinguished by pronounced saline notes.

Since 2007, Vigna Cunial has been dedicated to the revival of Parma’s ancient Malvasia grape. Registered in 2018 as the only native grape variety of the Parma Province, this grape was originally known as “Malvasia odorosissima” and was later renamed “Malvasia Casalini” in honor of Mr. Casalini, a custodian of some of the oldest vines. Research shows this grape has ancient origins and is likely a descendant of the Muscat of Alexandria. "Malvasia Casalini" stands apart from other local Malvasias, yielding exceptional results in winemaking, particularly in sparkling wine production.

Vigna Cunial is an active member of Vi.Te. (Vignaioli e Territori), the Natural Wine Association, reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship and biodiversity. In addition to vineyards, the estate cultivates various heritage fruit varieties, and native Mulazzano olive trees, and preserves local biodiversity with hedgerows and broadleaf woodlands, enhancing the landscape’s natural balance.

About the Wines

Vigna Cunial offers a selection of organic wines, including Primorosso (Barbera IGT), Monteroma (Malvasia IGT), Rosato Spumante brut (Pinot Nero, Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay), Brigliasciolta (Pinot Nero IGT), Valle di Sivizzano (Sauvignon IGT), Riserva (Syrah), Valtermina (Chardonnay IGT), and Rosso del Conte (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot). They also produce Grappa from Barbera and Malvasia grapes, and an apple cider. Each wine reflects the region’s unique terroir and organic practices.

An unmissable experience
Vigna Cunial is tradition, history and innovation all at the same time!
Emilio, one of the members of the Cunial family, was able to tell in an engaging way all the work behind the products they offer, with great attention and care to detail, conveying all the passion and love that he, his brother and his father put into what they do.
The place is a real corner of paradise where it is worth going if you want to spend time in serenity, tasting excellent wine and eating typical local products.
Excellent quality-price ratio.

Beautiful afternoon!
We loved everything: the walk in the vineyard learning about soil, sun, water and pruning; the tour in the wine making facilities, sipping wines straight out of the tanks; the official wine tasting experience, during which we tasted a variety of white and red, still and sparkling, together with some delicious local bites. Leonardo is competent, interesting, passionate and fluent in English as he travels and spends time regularly in famous foreign wine making regions. The ORGANIC approach has to be praised, supported and encouraged. Vigna Cunial is leader and pioneer in Italy and Europe: cudos!
I will return, treating more friends and visitors with a memorable afternoon.
Thanks, Leo!
