If you are looking for a dinner that goes well beyond simply 'eating well', the tasting menu in the grotto of Ristorante Venere in Gallicano nel Lazio is an absolute must. Emilio guides you through the courses and entertains with discretion. From the very first step inside the grotto, you are enveloped by an intimate, evocative, and almost timeless atmosphere. The location is simply spectacular: the charm of the historic rock creates an intimate and incredibly romantic setting.

I'm sorry to leave a negative review, but unfortunately the experience did not in any way match what was described and, above all, I believe the price charged is completely disproportionate to what is actually offered. The excursion is presented as "The Patriarch Olive Trees: The Temples of Oil – Tour, oil tasting and music in Matera", but some fundamental elements of the description were simply missing. For example, there was no music and the workshop to prepare the cialledda, expressly mentioned in the activity's presentation, did not take place. The olive trees are certainly very beautiful and the gentleman who came to pick us up was kind and helpful, so nothing to complain about in that regard. However, this does not justify the cost of the experience. We paid €104 for two people, including the "farmer's bundle" (€10 per person as a supplement), which turned out to be a simple container with something to taste, so much so that we preferred not to even eat it. This was our third excursion in Matera and we had very high expectations, especially considering the price was significantly higher than the average for other available activities. Unfortunately, it was, by far, the most disappointing experience. In the previous days we had participated in two other excursions that cost less than half: a walk of about two and a half hours in the Murgia Materana Park, led by an archaeologist and a botanist, perfectly organized, with bus transport and fully compliant with what was promised in the description. The comparison, unfortunately, is inevitable. I'm sorry to say it, but I believe the activity's description is misleading because it creates expectations that are not met. Furthermore, the price charged is decidedly excessive for the experience actually offered. I would have had no problem paying that amount if the tour had really been what was advertised, but it was not.

Upon arrival at the winery we were welcomed with enthusiasm, courtesy and professionalism. We visited the splendid organic vineyards and the wonderful cellar, accompanied by a precise explanation of the various phases that lead the grape to become wine. The wonderful barrels in which it is placed to mature and refine! Finally, the icing on the cake: a tasting of 4 varieties of Bolgheri wine, presented with care and courtesy by the staff. A fresh Vermentino Bolgheri bianco DOC, a red IGT Toscana, a red Bolgheri DOC and a red Bolgheri Superiore DOC, all accompanied by a platter with specialties from the Patrone farm butcher shop. A highly recommended experience for lovers of nature, organic products and good wine! Thank you Cantina Villanoviana
