We came across the Nicolau de Almeida winery through a recommendation and were not disappointed. Tiago welcomed us warmly and took a lot of time for us. In the end, it was a private tasting since there were no other guests. After an introduction to the history of the Almeidas and a cellar tour, we were able to taste a first wine on the terrace overlooking the Douro (a Vinho Verde Ronfe). Afterwards, we continued the tasting in the 'living room'. To start, a white port wine (a lighter port with less sweetness than usual), followed by a first red wine (Monte Xisto Orbita, mostly Touriga Nacional), then the Monte Xisto (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Souson). To finish, the red port wine. To accompany it, there were almonds, bread and their own olive oil. It was a lovely glimpse into a small business. Very personal with wonderful wine. Highly recommended. I gifted this tasting tour with a vineyard walk to my girlfriend and the experience was truly very pleasant. The owners are extremely kind and convey all their passion for their work. We drank excellent wines (Ali was our favorite) and ate an abundant board of cured meats, cheese, piadina, and a tasting of crostini with their homemade oil, all with a view of the vineyard. Highly recommended!

We went to Cantina Sacco as the first stop for my brother's stag do and we were pleasantly impressed. The products were of excellent quality, both the food and the wine. I also loved the view and, despite the unusual heat, it was comfortable outside with a cool breeze. The owners are delightful people and gladly shared their experience in running the business. Highly recommended.
