Wine Holidays in Friuli Venezia Giulia
A wine holiday in Friuli Venezia Giulia is a stay of one or more nights among the vineyards, usually at the estate itself: a winery, a wine resort or a farm stay, from a wine weekend to a longer trip. Nearly all of them include a wine tasting, and some add dinner or visits to other wineries. On Winedering you'll find 4 stays, with prices from €100 to €399.
The wine areas with packages to book are Colli Orientali and Collio.
You can also browse them by area: Remanzacco, Zoppola, Cividale del Friuli and San Floriano del Collio.
Winery stays in Friuli: Collio, Colli Orientali and the Grave
Friuli Venezia Giulia is best known for its white wines, and the Collio is one of the places where the modern revival of orange wine began. The 4 wine holidays on this page are at three estates: three stays of one night and a weekend of two nights that adds a second winery.
Where can you stay at a winery in Friuli?
- Paraschos, at San Floriano del Collio, a few minutes from Gorizia and the Slovenian border: a room at the family agriturismo and a tasting of 5 wines at the table in the winery's tavern, led by Jannis or Alexis Paraschos, from white and orange wines to a final red.
- Vigne del Malina, at Orzano di Remanzacco between Udine and Cividale del Friuli: a family agriturismo with a winery visit and a tasting of 6 wines, including two skin-contact wines. The weekend adds a second night and a tasting of 4 wines at Bastianich, near Cividale.
- Fossa Mala, near Pordenone, in the Friuli Grave: a night in a suite, a walk across the estate past the vineyards, the olive grove, the deer and the riding school, and a tasting of 5 wines with local cheese and cold cuts.
What is orange wine?
A white wine made the way a red is made: the juice ferments with the grape skins, which give it an amber colour, more texture and some tannin. Paraschos is known for long skin contact on its Ribolla Gialla and Pinot Grigio, and the tasting at Vigne del Malina includes some of its skin-contact wines.
When is the best time to go?
September and October for the harvest and the colours on the hills, spring for quiet green vineyards. If you stay near Cividale del Friuli, leave time for the town: its Tempietto Longobardo, an 8th-century Longobard chapel, is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Do you need a car?
Yes. The estates are in the countryside, transfers are not included, and the weekend at Vigne del Malina includes a visit to a second winery. Trieste airport is the closest to the Collio; Venice airport also works for Pordenone and Udine.
