Wine Holidays in Latium
A wine holiday in Latium is a stay of one or more nights among the vineyards, usually at the estate itself: a winery, a wine resort or a farm stay, from a wine weekend to a longer trip. Nearly all of them include a wine tasting, and some add dinner or visits to other wineries. On Winedering you'll find 8 stays, with prices from €135 to €395.
You can also browse them by area: Rieti, Cisterna di Latina, Piglio and Cellere.
Winery stays near Rome: wine tasting weekends in Lazio
All 8 wine holidays on this page are within about two hours of Rome, in four quiet corners of Lazio: the countryside near Rieti, the Cesanese hills around Piglio, the Agro Pontino south of the capital and the Tuscia, near the border with Tuscany. Seven last one night and one lasts two.
Where can you stay at a winery near Rome?
- Cantina Le Macchie, near Rieti, about an hour from Rome: a night in a barrel suite, a winery visit and a tasting of 4 or 7 wines. The fuller versions add a meal and an hour in the wellness area, with sauna and Finnish tub.
- Al Piglio Wine Resort, at Piglio in Ciociaria, about an hour from Rome. The Essence includes a tasting of 4 wines, among them a Cesanese del Piglio DOCG and a Langhe Nebbiolo from the family's estate in La Morra, Piedmont; the Cru is built around a tasting dinner at the Terra restaurant, with a wine for each course.
- Il Podere di Marfisa, in the Tuscia near the Tuscan border, about two hours from Rome: a wine resort on volcanic soils, with a guided tasting of 3 estate wines with local food and the outdoor pool in season.
- Molino 7 Cento, at Cisterna di Latina in the Agro Pontino: a walk around an 18th-century village with a working water mill, a tour of the vineyards, the olive groves and the winery, and a tasting of 3 wines, for 1 or 2 nights.
Can you really sleep in a wine barrel?
Yes, at Cantina Le Macchie: the barrel suites stand next to the La Foresta restaurant, 5 minutes by car from the winery, and breakfast with local products is included in all three versions.
What is Cesanese del Piglio?
The only red DOCG wine of Lazio, made mainly from the Cesanese grape in the hills of Piglio and the nearby villages, east of Rome. It is the local red you taste at Al Piglio.
When is the best time to go?
In summer the pools are open at Al Piglio, from May to September, and at Il Podere di Marfisa; the harvest follows in September and October. In the cooler months Al Piglio replaces the pool with a wellness circuit in the olive grove, with hot tubs and a sauna. You need a car for all four estates.
