Amalia Cascina in Langa
(Winery in Monforte d'Alba)
The Langhe is a district so rich in treasures as to have been recently declared a World Heritage site by Unesco.
Amalia Cascina in Langa is an exclusive starting point from which to adventure out on their discovery.
Right from the beginning of the 20th century, there was a farmhouse in Monforte d’Alba, surrounded by annexed farm buildings and some vineyards which produced Dolcetto and Barbera.
In 2003, the Boffa family, seduced by the gentle quiet of the area, took over the complex and made it the base for project of excellence focused on quality and hospitality.
In just a short time, spaces and volumes were reconceived.
The main body was transformed into a charmingly hospitable B&B.
The existing vineyards were joined by new ones, purchased in the prestigious Barolo Bussia and Le Coste Crus of Monforte.
And then, the winery itself was built.
The aim is clear: to produce the finest quality wines, respecting terroir and tradition, in an elegant and reserved context which offers an opportunity to enjoy all the pleasures of its hospitality.
If the Amalia Cascina in Langa project continues to flourish today, it is thanks to the commitment and effort of the Boffa family, because they take care of everything here: Maria Angela, the mother, runs the B&B; Gigi, the father, lend a hand wherever it’s required, and their son, Paolo, manages the vineyards and cellar.

The Conterno Fantino winery styles its wines with the primary goal of reflecting their own identity: from painstaking manual selection of fruit to harvest by hand using small crates; from preserving the aromas of the vineyard with spontaneous fermentation from indigenous yeasts (no commercial yeast is used here); from the careful use of wood for the ageing of the wines to the minimal use of sulfites, right up to the bottle ageing.
Azienda Agricola Elio Grasso
(Winery in Monforte d'Alba)
The vineyards owned by the Grasso family are the estate's greatest assets. The area where they are located has always been considered outstanding wine country, as is demonstrated by the inclusion of our holdings in the map of the finest vineyards drawn up by the great historian, Lorenzo Fantini, in the early 20th century.
Elio Grasso Wines - Monforte d'Alba, PiedmontIn the early 1980s we decided to go back to our origins as grape growers, well aware that our work did not stop at the end of the row of vines. We had no illusions that we were inventing anything: we merely wanted to comply with the best in the traditions and work of our predecessors, without any preconceived ideas. The first logical consequence was the decision, from 1978, to vinify and bottle separately grapes from our various vineyards.
Monforte d'Alba was a pagus romanus, or Roman settlement, then a Lombard village, and in the Middle Ages became the epicentre of the Cathar heresy.
Elio Grasso Wines - Monforte d'Alba, PiedmontPhoto by Saisonnier The focal point where the Alba Langhe meets Dogliano and the Upper Langhe, Monforte is acknowledged as one of the great capitals of Barolo, to whose production area it has historically belonged.

Az.Ag. Vigna Rionda - Massolino
(Winery in Monforte d'Alba)
Making wine with passion, in its land of origin, preserving the typical characteristics of the autochthonous grape varieties, being convinced that there is a deep and tangible link between the vines, hills and winegrowers, made up of affinities cemented, by habit, to the land. Since 1896, the Massolino family has been making wine this way, loyal to this philosophy and to the capacity for innovation in the name of tradition. In short, loyal to itself.
Az. Agricola - F.Lli Seghesio Sdf
(Winery in Monforte d'Alba)
A typical Langa estate: family-run, small/medium-sized, strongly-attached to its roots.
Located in the heart of the Langhe, in Monforte d’Alba, on the eastern side of the village overlooking the hill of Serralunga.
The estate extends over 10 hectares of vineyards producing around 60,000 bottles a year of the great local reds: a fresh Dolcetto d’Alba, a characteristic Barbera d’Alba whose qualities are brought out to the full in the “La Chiesa” cru, a refined Langhe Nebbiolo and an elegant Barolo.
It all began in 1988, when Aldo and Riccardo released the first bottle of Barolo under the Seghesio label. Alongside Riccardo today are his niece Michela, and nephews Sandro and Marco.
Together they take care of all the facets of the business: in the vineyard from the pruning to picking, in the cellar from the vinification to sales, in the office from the administration to promotion.
The Seghesio philosophy is to craft wines that fully reflect the terroir and the grapes they are made from, producing the right mix between winemaking innovations and tradition, convinced as they are of the potential that – in its simplicity – this land is capable of offering.
