Situated on the Favaios plateau in the Douro region, Quinta da Faisca offers immersive wine experiences including tastings, wine classes, and guided visits to the cellars and wineries, often accompanied by meals that celebrate the local culinary tradition. The property has been remodeled and expanded under the direction of architect Carlos Castanheira, with the aim of not only producing exceptional wines but also providing guests with a sensory journey. The tour takes visitors through the grape reception area and into the innovative spaces of the winemaking and barrel cellars, offering insights into every stage of the wine production process. The experience is designed to engage the senses — sight, smell, and taste — as guests learn about the transformation of grapes into wine. The visit concludes with a tasting of various wines, paired with olive oil and local Douro olives, enjoyed on a veranda that overlooks the stunning hills and valleys descending to the Douro River. The landscape alone promises to make the experience truly memorable. Quinta da Faisca also features a selection of wines from regions such as Douro, Lacrau, Secret Spot, Trás-os-Montes, Vinho Verde, Quinta do Cruzeiro, and Sousa Lopes, showcasing the diversity of wine production across northern Portugal.

Located on the left bank of the River Douro as you arrive at Ervedosa, Quinta de Ventozelo is one of the region’s most beautiful and impressive estates. This vast amphitheatre overlooking the river is “the gateway to the silence of the Douro Valley”, where time seems to flow more slowly. The calmness and close connection to nature are its main intangible value. Quinta de Ventozelo was once farmed by Cistercian monks who inhabited the region in the Middle Age. The monks transformed local agriculture and began production of port wine. The first historical mention of Ventozelo dates from 1288, but around 1500, by assignment of the Cistercian Monastery of S. Pedro das Águias, the Estate came into the hands of the hidalgos of Casa do Poço from Lamego.
