CAVARENA
About the Winery
Nestled in the hills between Verona and Lake Garda, at 450 meters above sea level, Cavarena is a small family-run farm in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Offering breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys, the estate spans three and a half hectares, cultivated directly by the family with a focus on traditional, sustainable agriculture and maintaining the highest levels of biodiversity.
Cavarena produces 7,000–8,000 bottles of artisan wine each season, alongside extra virgin olive oil. Visitors are welcomed for guided tastings of these products, paired with locally sourced gastronomic specialties, often including vegetables from the farm’s private garden. Great care is taken to match each wine with complementary dishes, creating an experience that transcends the technical aspects of tasting, emphasizing the deep connection between wine, food, and culture.
At Cavarena, visits are personally managed by the farmers and owners, Sergio and Cristina. Sergio, an agronomist with international experience, and Cristina, who embraced farming 22 years ago after a career in administration, are dedicated to sharing their passion and knowledge. Their hands-on approach fosters an authentic connection, offering guests an intimate understanding of the land, the traditions, and the values behind their work.
About the Wines
Cavarena specializes in red wines, including Valpolicella Ripasso DOC and Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, alongside IGT wines that perfectly represent the winery's philosophy. Currently producing five wines, the portfolio will soon grow with the mid-2025 release of Masua Regia, a robust and full-bodied wine crafted from ancient grape varieties that were once forgotten in modern winemaking.
All wines reflect the distinct influence of the high-altitude vineyards, creating expressions that are proudly non-commercial. The sensorial profiles are not shaped to suit market preferences but instead celebrate the authenticity of the land. The aim is to produce wines that fully embody the unique character of the Valpolicella hills — pure and uncompromised.
Minimal technology and traditional practices define the winemaking process, resulting in wines with a bold personality and a sense of place. The estate cultivates nine grape varieties, including ancient varieties that enhance the complexity and depth of the wines.
Cavarena's wines are for those seeking an escape from commercial trends, offering a return to the essence of wine—authenticity, tradition, and a true connection to the land.
