About Winery and Wines
Azienda Agricola Colleonorato's origins are deeply rooted in a century-long family history of working the land. The founder, born above a winery established in 1900, pursued a degree in Economics and Marketing in agro-industries without initially intending to make wine. Yet, her family's long-standing connection to agriculture, passed down through generations, ultimately led her to cultivate her passion for winemaking. Colleonorato was born from the need to honor her family’s past and embrace her love for nature.
The winery is situated along Via Colleonorato, the very place of the founder's birth and the site of the new state-of-the-art winery dedicated to producing their flagship Verdicchio wines: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore in two labels, “Prologo” and “La Giostra,” as well as the Rosso Piceno labeled “Il Cortese.”
A deep partnership with Luca, who shares in the management of the vineyard, helps to fuel the winery’s innovative approach. Together, they push boundaries to create a Verdicchio that balances tradition and unconventional choices, producing wines that reflect both the region's rich legacy and modern techniques.
At Colleonorato, winemaking is seen as an art form, designed to create sensory orchestrations that blend tradition with contemporary craftsmanship. The winery prides itself on continuous innovation, transforming Verdicchio into a showcase for creativity while preserving the fundamental roots of traditional, artisanal production. This philosophy of constantly striving for the highest quality fuels their journey to produce wines that harmoniously combine balance, intensity, and aroma, evoking the essence of their land.
Colleonorato produces two distinct selections of Verdicchio. From younger vineyards, around 25 years old, they harvest grapes for PROLOGO, a Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore. From older vines, over 40 years old, they select grapes for LA GIOSTRA, a Verdicchio Riserva Classico. Additionally, the estate produces a Rosato and Rosso Piceno from Montepulciano, Sangiovese, and Merlot grapes. The vineyards, located near the historic Abbazia di Sant'Urbano and the Castello di Rotoscio, lie at the boundary between Ancona and Macerata.
