Podere Casa al Vento

Winery in Montepulciano, Valdichiana

About the Winery

Podere Casa al Vento is a family-run winery nestled in the serene hills of the Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia in Tuscany. Surrounded by 19 hectares of natural beauty, including six hectares of vineyards, three hectares of forest, and an olive grove, the estate enjoys a peaceful environment, far removed from highways and pollution. Established in 2003 by owner Sonia Buracchi, the farm has grown through a strong commitment to traditional practices, love for the land, and sustainable farming. What began as a small-scale project, producing just a few thousand bottles, has evolved into a dynamic operation that now bottles around 17,000 bottles per year.

In 2021, the estate made the decisive move to convert to organic farming, with official certification expected by June 2024. Even before this transition, Podere Casa al Vento had already begun using eco-friendly practices, such as sexual confusion methods to minimize chemical treatments. The winery is fully equipped with a small but efficient cellar, divided between stainless steel tanks for vinification and oak barrels for aging. The Buracchi family, including Sonia's children Paolo and Giulia, work together to create wines that reflect their dedication to quality and tradition.

About the Wines

Podere Casa al Vento specializes in producing wines made from Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, offering a range of vintages that highlight the unique terroir of Montepulciano.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG: This wine is crafted from carefully selected, hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes. Fermentation takes place in steel, followed by 36 months of aging in 20hl oak barrels. The result is a structured and elegant wine with depth and complexity.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG: Like its Riserva counterpart, this wine is also produced from hand-harvested Sangiovese grapes, but with a 24-month aging period in oak. It offers a rich yet approachable expression of Tuscany's premier grape.

Rosso di Montepulciano DOC: Made from hand-picked Sangiovese grapes, this younger wine undergoes a shorter aging period of 12 months in steel barrels. It is fresh and vibrant, perfect for those who enjoy a lively red with less oak influence.

Brutus IGT: A unique wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested late for optimal ripeness. After 20 to 25 days of fermentation and maceration, Brutus is aged for 12 months in 20hl oak barrels, resulting in a bold and intense wine with character and a long finish.

A gourmet break
A warm welcome, a magnificent decor and a wine tasting accompanied by delicious charcuterie and cheeses. They had even planned an alternative for our family's allergies, namely a gluten-free menu and a pork-free menu. It was a magical break in our trip. Thank you!
It's a family business and we had the pleasure of being warmly welcomed and served by the owner and his mom. Such kind people!

Magnificent experience!
My girlfriend and I had a splendid experience at Podere Casa Al Vento, welcomed with great kindness by the family that runs the business with passion and care. First, we took a walk through the winery's vineyards, accompanied by stories about the production processes and the fundamental topics concerning the creation of these excellent wines. The subsequent tasting took place outdoors where you can admire the view of the pristine surrounding countryside. At the end of the tasting, it is also possible to taste their excellent oil served on bruschetta with aglione. Overall, a magnificent experience that not only allows you to appreciate the taste and smell of the wine, but also to understand all the work and sacrifices necessary to produce it.

Highly recommended!

Special experience
My partner and I booked this tasting almost by chance given the vast number of offers and I must say that no choice could have been more spot-on.
Podere Casa al Vento is a completely family-run agriturismo, immersed in nature and the most total peace.
Giulia, who guided us through the whole experience, is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and hospitable... it was wonderful to visit the vineyards and the cellar with her and to learn so many things about the world of wine from her.
To top it all off, the tasting in the company of dad Aldo and mom Sonia as well, with exceptional wines and cured meats.
We never would have left and rest assured we will be back, and not just for a tasting!

Fantastic visit
A beautiful experience, I went there with my girlfriend for a tasting, we thought it was a “classic” group tasting and in the end we found ourselves in a private tasting because it was just us, Paolo was very kind right from the start, giving us a tour of the vineyards before immersing us in his excellent wines, accompanied by a small platter of salami and cheese and some crostini with oil and garlic, obviously we stocked up on wines to take home.
We will definitely be back
