Monte Solaio Winery

Winery in Maremma, Cornia Valley, Etruscan Coast

About the Winery

Monte Solaio Winery is a testament to the rich history and traditions of the Tuscan countryside. Situated between the metalliferous hills and Val di Cornia, this estate spans a landscape where the natural beauty of Tuscany is on full display.

The winery’s vineyards thrive in fertile soils, influenced by the unique microclimate created by the Mediterranean Sea, mild winters, and mineral-rich earth. Established as early as 1318 and transformed in the 21st century by Claudio Guglielmucci, Monte Solaio has become a beacon of winemaking excellence and luxury tourism. The estate’s panoramic terrace offers breathtaking views of the rolling hills of Campiglia Marittima and the blue Mediterranean, providing an idyllic setting for wine tastings.

The winery’s history is intertwined with the land’s natural elements, from the Mediterranean scrub to the mineral-laden soil, all contributing to the distinct minerality and character found in each glass of wine. The mild winters and sun-drenched summers further enhance the vineyard’s ability to produce wines that are a true reflection of the Tuscan coast. Monte Solaio’s wines are more than just beverages; they are an expression of the land’s heritage, crafted with care and precision to showcase the very best of Tuscany.

About the Wines

Monte Solaio Winery offers a diverse selection of wines, each reflecting the unique terroir of the Tuscan coast.

Boccasanta is a white wine with a clear straw yellow color, featuring aromas of unripened white fruits and citrus. Allegro, a Viognier, presents ripe peach and jasmine notes with a soft, mineral-rich palate. Sarosa, a rosé, is vibrant pink with cherry and strawberry flavors. Sacrestano is a fresh, ruby red wine with blackberry and raspberry hints. Tino Rosso delivers a complex palate with wild berries, licorice, and vanilla. Sassin'Oro, a Syrah, is deep red with black cherry and violet aromas, offering a silky, tannin-rich experience. Collevato, a Cabernet Sauvignon, is full-bodied and rich in tannins, ideal for aging. Re del Castello, a Merlot, combines raspberry and currant notes with elegant spice and floral hints.

Each wine embodies the region's mineral-rich soils, coastal climate, and the winery's dedication to crafting distinctive, high-quality wines.

Enchanting experience
The tasting at Monte Solaio was a fantastic experience. Once we arrived at the estate, we were immersed in a tasting journey of four wines (a white, a rosé, and two reds) accompanied by a charcuterie board and their own olive oil. The host told us about the steps behind each wine, from the quality of the soil to the bottling, proving to be both interesting and witty. Very good wines, an enchanting view, and courteous and knowledgeable hospitality. We will be back!

Monte Solaio Tasting - Campiglia Marittima
The winery produces both wine and oil of excellent quality.
The tasting consists of an explanation and sampling of 4 wines with typical cured meats and cheeses, accompanied by a very evocative atmosphere and panorama that lets you fully live this food and wine experience. On one side you can see the Etruscan coast and on the other the Monte Solaio castle along with the various hills.
The sommelier proved to be very knowledgeable and helpful. After the tasting, it is possible to buy wine and oil and move to the castle's wine shop for purchases from the menu.
Quality and price of 20 euros per person, unbeatable.

A fantastic experience
I visited Monte Solaio for a classic wine tasting with my mum. The location was beautiful, the wine was delicious and we learned a lot about wine in the region. It also came with some nibbles and olive oil that's also made at the winery . Our host Daisy was very friendly and informative. We would definitely recommend it!
