Tenuta Casadei

Winery in Maremma, Cornia Valley, Etruscan Coast

About the Winery

Tenuta Casadei is a unique winery born in 1998, on the cusp of the new millennium, with an international vision that reflects the diversity of its vines and the collaboration between two passionate families—the Casadei family from Italy and the Cline family, renowned wine entrepreneurs from California’s Sonoma Valley. The partnership began serendipitously, during a dinner where Stefano Casadei and Fred Cline discovered their shared passion for winemaking, love for the land, respect for the environment, and an unwavering commitment to quality. This global yet unified approach to winemaking has become the cornerstone of Tenuta Casadei's philosophy: "We are citizens of the world, but we speak a single language: that of Wine. Good."

Located in the picturesque region of Suvereto, Tuscany, Tenuta Casadei invites visitors to experience the harmony between international expertise and local tradition. The estate is a perfect destination for travelers who want to explore the beauty of Tuscany while enjoying world-class wines that embody a blend of innovation and respect for nature.

About the Wines

Tenuta Casadei’s vineyards cover 16 hectares in Suvereto, strategically spread over two distinct areas that enhance the diversity and richness of their wines. The upper vineyards are home to international grape varieties like Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, carefully selected to thrive in the unique microclimate of the region. These varieties are known for producing powerful, elegant reds that are rich in character.

Further down the property, the vineyard’s terroir changes, offering a different soil composition that is ideal for Mediterranean varieties. Here, the estate cultivates Moscato, Ansonica, Grenache, and Mourvèdre—grapes that bring a vibrant, aromatic quality to their wines. This thoughtful approach to viticulture, combining the best of international and Mediterranean varieties, allows Tenuta Casadei to craft wines that are both diverse and expressive, reflecting the unique terroir of Suvereto.

Each bottle from Tenuta Casadei is a testament to the winery’s commitment to producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines that resonate with the passion and expertise of its founders. Whether you are enjoying a robust red or an aromatic white, the wines of Tenuta Casadei offer a true taste of Tuscany with an international flair.

My husband and I chose the picnic in the vineyard. The estate is very large and well-kept; we tasted excellent products and good wine. Our dog was with us too, and he was welcomed even on the cellar tour, which was very beautiful and interesting. Beautiful estate, well done!

Picnic in the vineyard - Everything perfect!
The girl who welcomed us was very nice, knowledgeable, and professional. She showed us the cellar and explained the winemaking process in detail.
We tasted two very good wines and continued on our walk towards the vineyard and the small lake, where we ate the snacks in the backpack and drank a bottle of red wine (so good that we decided to buy one to take home). Excellent experience and beautiful place
In the backpack's description, it said there would be bread and focaccia but we only found some crostini. I would suggest maybe including a couple of sandwiches inside the backpack, as since the contents aren't very clear, customers might expect a "packed lunch".

An original experience
Following the Calici di Stelle evening, held in Suvereto in the first half of August, my partner and I decided to learn more about some of the wineries in the area.
The Casadei estate immediately struck us for its original biodynamic approach, which we were not yet aware of.
Following the tour of the estate and the cellar, we had the opportunity to taste three glasses of the Casadei family's main wines, including those aged in amphora.
Afterward, we were given a backpack, equipped with a bottle, focaccia, cured meats, and vegetables in oil, and we set off for a walk around the estate.
Walking through the vineyard, you can perceive all the care and elegance of the estate.
It was a truly special and original experience that we recommend to anyone who wants to get to know the Casadei family's products and their history.
I also bought some saffron honey, truly delicious!
Compliments to the young women who were patient and kind and able to convey all the passion for wine and the philosophy of the Casadei family.

Tasting with a picnic
A unique experience, which starts from an original idea! The place is very beautiful and scenic. It's a shame about the choice of wines they offer for the tasting. The offer only includes the 3 basic wines; usually during tastings, other wineries offer a diversified selection of their products that includes at least one mid-range and one high-end wine. In this case, to taste these types of wine, you have to get a glass, paying for it separately (from 6 to 8 € per glass).

Picnic in the Vineyard June 2024
Highly recommended experience! Perfect welcome; the guide told us about the Casadei Estate and its world, showing us the exterior and the cellar. This was followed by a tasting of two glasses of their top labels with focaccina and, having chosen the Picnic package, they provided us with a backpack complete with an entry-level bottle from the winery, white or red of our choice, with portions of a vacuum-packed mixed platter and vegetables in oil (obviously dishes and a blanket). We were able to choose our preferred picnic spot on the estate map, the one near the artificial lake is recommended, and spent 2 hours in complete relaxation, forgetting the world around us.
If you go in the summer, a hat for the outdoors and comfortable shoes are recommended because you cross the vineyard on a dirt road.
