James led our tour and did a fantastic job. He was very professional and very knowledgable, able to answer all of our questions. At other wineries, my wife, who is not a native English speaker, had difficulty understanding the Spanish accent. This was no problem with James, as his explanations were crisp and clear.. he also has a fascinating personal story about how he moved to the region. We tried several wines, and we both enjoyed the blends more than the single varietals. Having said that, my wife loves syrah, and Atavus has a single varietal syrah that she enjoyed. This came as a surprise, as other wineries reported inconsistent results with their syrah, and therefore only used it as a small component of their blends. The tasting room is very bright and full of light, with good views of the vineyards.

Flávio and Maria were great hosts on this wine tasting experience. The food they served and the wine was delicious. We were given a brief tour of the distillery which was very interesting. We would definitely recommend a visit to this vineyard. We went by taxi from Reggio which took a round 90 minutes. The experience lasted around 2 hours and I would recommend booking the platinum tour.
