Poderi Arcangelo is a historic family-run winery located between Certaldo and San Gimignano, in the heart of Tuscany. The estate's story began in the early 1900s with Giuseppe Mora, who, after emigrating from Marche, planted the first 2 hectares of vines, establishing a lasting family tradition. In the 1960s and 70s, Bruno Mora and his wife Maria expanded the vineyard, dedicating themselves to cultivating native Tuscan grapes such as Sangiovese and Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Their commitment to the land, coupled with their passion for winemaking, ensured the estate's growth despite widespread urban migration, which saw many leave the countryside for factory jobs. Today, under the leadership of Sandra Mora, Poderi Arcangelo spans 23 hectares of certified organic vineyards and 1,800 olive trees. The estate produces approximately 130,000 liters of wine annually, with a focus on high-quality native varietals. Sandra continues her family's dedication to crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir, blending tradition with modern technology. In 2000, the estate became one of the first to receive organic certification and further embraced sustainability with the installation of a photovoltaic system for energy production and a phyto-purification system for water treatment. Currently, the winery produces around 60,000 bottles each year, with nine different labels, including the internationally acclaimed Supertuscan Granbaccano IGT and the award-winning Vernaccia di San Gimignano "Terra del Lago" DOCG. The estate’s wines are regularly featured in prestigious wine guides, highlighting their commitment to quality and sustainability.

Podere La Marronaia

In 2000, Luigi Dei and Silvia Morrocchi fell in love with the old ruin of Podere Marronaia, sparking a life-changing project for themselves and their children, Pietro and Corrado. Luigi, who grew up immersed in farm life with his grandfather Gino, shared a passion for the countryside and wine. This passion led the family to embrace organic farming and restore the Podere Marronaia estate, transforming it into a thriving agricultural venture while maintaining its family-oriented essence. Even their Italian sheepdog, Dino, played a part, supervising the work as the family rebuilt the property. The transition to organic farming marked a significant step for the Dei family, who were pioneers in the area, being among the first to produce organic wines. Their philosophy was to reconnect with the land and embrace the slow rhythms of nature. Organic farming at Podere Marronaia views the entire agricultural ecosystem as interconnected, using the natural fertility of the soil and promoting biodiversity with minimal human intervention. The vineyards and olive groves were gradually switched to the organic system, earning ICEA certification for environmental and ecological sustainability. In 2016, Podere La Marronaia made the further leap to biodynamic farming, a method that aims to enhance soil fertility and ensure the highest quality grapes and olives, both in nutritional and organoleptic terms. This approach rejects synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides, instead focusing on natural methods that support the vitality of the land. While biodynamic farming requires more labor-intensive work, the results have been rewarding, with improved wine and olive oil production and a flourishing ecosystem, evidenced by the presence of bird species that now inhabit the garden. Podere La Marronaia is more than just an agricultural business; it is a family’s vision coming to life, rooted in respect for nature, the passing of the seasons, and the desire to share these values with others who care for the environment.
