About Winery and Wines

The history of the Cesani company has coincidedwith that of the Cesani family since 1949, when Guido and Annunziata bought a first piece of land with a small house in Pancole, 6 km from the center of San Gimignano, on the top of a hill where vines and olive trees have always been cultivated. After an initial period of subsistence farming, accompanied by the breeding of a few cattle, with the passing of management to their son Vincenzo, the businessthen specialized in the production of wines and extra virgin olive oil, coming to represent one of the best expressions of quality in San Gimignano.Operationscontinue today thanks to the passion and competence of the daughters Letizia and Marialuisa, who for years have been supporting Vincenzo in the management of the company. Custodians and interpreters of values and traditions handed down in the family, the two sisters have helped to transform this authentic rural reality into a dynamic agricultural and wine-producing estate that represents an excellence of this territory.

The 26 hectares of vineyards spread overthree different areas which, althoughat most 2 km from each other, represent very different production realities with a precise identity: Pancole, San Paolo and Cellole. In these different vineyards, managed as single living organisms, the company wines are produced, each one the fruit of different soils, agronomic choices and harvesting. The wines produced are real crus which are cured and bottled as such. The grapes, all hand-picked and selected for maturation, variety and plot, are carried every hour tothe cellars where the wine is made. For the fermentation and vinification of white and rosé wines, steel tanks are used, while for the vinification of the reds steel and cement tanks are used. Furthermore, the red wines, depending on their characteristics, are then refined in French oak. All tanks are temperature controlled and even regulatedremotely by a control panel because many stabilization processes are carried out only with temperature control. The refining of the bottled wine takes place in rooms located within an old agricultural outbuilding recently restored, buried on three sides and with constant temperature and humidity. For Cesani wines "the passing of time is an ingredient" just like grapes and passion.
