About the Wines
Situated in the Minervois, a seductive region in the west of France’s Languedoc, tucked in between the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Black Mountains and the Canal du Midi, the family-owned Château St Jacques d’Albas benefits from a wealth of natural advantages to produce impressive wines.
Over 60 hectares of forest and garrigue, teaming with wildlife, and an 11th-century chapel, protect the 26 hectares of organic vines. Our philosophy from the beginning has been to limit yields and take an organic approach to managing the soil and the vines.
Our wines reflect an environmental philosophy, an unusual viticultural approach, and the unique "terroir". In 2001, we identified a region with recognised potential to improve and immediately launched an extensive renovation programme, rebalancing the soil, replanting, and implementing modern techniques to support winemaking. The result is award-winning, exceptional "fruit-first" wines, supported by complex yet soft tannins that we believe demonstrate the potential of Minervois wines.
