About Winery and Wines
The Marchesi Fumanelli family, the founders of the Squarano Estate, has a rich history in winemaking that dates back to 1470.
Armando, the current head of the Squarano Estate, manages the winery alongside his wife Roberta and their two sons. This family-run business, with a tradition passed down through 28 generations, is dedicated to preserving and sharing their passion for winemaking. Together, they strive to pass on the heritage of their ancestors while ensuring that every visitor feels welcomed and part of this long-standing tradition.
The Squarano Estate is located in the heart of the most classic Valpolicella, on a hill surrounded by cypress trees. The estate’s villa, dating back to 1470, stands on the remains of ancient Roman vineyards. It is a place steeped in history, with artifacts and inscriptions, including remnants of a temple dedicated to the goddess Flora. The area benefits from a mild climate, thanks to the protection of the Lessinia mountains and the influence of nearby Lake Garda, making it perfect for grape cultivation.
At the Squarano Estate, our work in grape cultivation and our passion for wine tastings and events are what truly define us. We aim to share our love for winemaking with everyone who visits, offering them an exclusive and unforgettable experience in a stunning setting that has stood the test of time.
At the Squarano Estate, we produce high-quality wines, including two exceptional whites from 2017 that stand out in the Valpolicella region, traditionally known for its reds. Our Sidus and Terso are both aged in wood, offering a rich bouquet of aromas and a mineral-driven palate.
We also craft two distinct Valpolicella Classico Superiore wines. The first is our classic Valpolicella Classico Superiore, while the second is the Valpolicella Classico Superiore - Squarano, a special version with a touch of appassimento that gives it an added depth and character.
Moving on to the next level, we produce the classic Ripasso, full of complexity and richness. Finally, in our top range, we offer the prestigious Amarone and Amarone Riserva.
