About Winery and Wines
The Meroni winery is located in one of the 5 municipalities of Valpolicella Classica, and more precisely in the municipality of Sant'Ambrogio, about 18 km from the splendid city of Verona, in that Valpolicella which is home to the birth of Recioto del Valpolicella, and of the more noble Amarone, a wine now famous throughout the world for its production technique and longevity. The Meroni estate covers 15 hectares entirely of propietá, 11 of which are cultivated with vines after a careful restoration of those areas most suited, already from the time of ancient Rome, when the area was the "reservoir" for the Empire from the Latin: "Vallis polis cellae" the valley of the many cellars, the remaining 4 hectares have been maintained with olive groves and woodland to respect the 'natural balance of the valley. Since 1935, the year in which the Company was acquired by Carlo Roberto Meroni, grandfather of the current owners, it has been obtaining its products from grapes only from the "Sengia" and "Maso" estates, the former behind the company in the valley below the village of San Giorgio. The second estate is located in the locality of Grola, an area still considered to be among the most vocated in the historic Valpolicella, where legend has it that Recioto and Amarone were born.
