Wine tasting weekends in Sicily: Etna, Noto and the west

The 5 wine holidays on this page cover three wine areas of Sicily: the slopes of Etna, the baroque south-east around Noto and the vineyards of the west between Menfi and Marsala. There is also a B&B on the north coast. They last from one night to three.

Where can you stay among the vineyards in Sicily?

• The Flavours of Black Earth, on Etna: 2 nights in a farmhouse, or in a B&B when the farmhouse is full, and a vineyard walk and tasting at a family winery with a light lunch.

Do you need a car?

Yes, for the two touring itineraries: transport is not included, and the western one is designed as a self-drive route, with a rental car or private transport available as an extra. The Noto escape starts and ends in Catania.

When is the best time to go?

Spring and autumn; summer is very hot, especially inland. The harvest starts in August in the west and ends on Etna, where the vineyards are higher and the grapes are picked in October. Etna and the baroque towns of the Val di Noto are both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
