Castello Monterinaldi

Winery in Chianti, Chianti Classico

About the Winery

Castello di Monterinaldi is nestled in the heart of the Chianti Classico's oldest region, between Panzano and Radda in Chianti, atop a hill that, from above, resembles the shell of a turtle, near an ancient Etruscan road.
Legend has it that the origins of this historic site date back to 1010 AD, when "Count Gottifredo, of Lombard descent and lord of Monte Rinaldi," gave the place its name and laid the foundations for the Castello di Monterinaldi. Over the past thousand years, the castle has withstood numerous battles, from the medieval conflicts, notably the Battle of Montaperti in 1260, to the Second World War, losing parts of its structure and the surrounding homes.
Yet today, the Castello di Monterinaldi still stands proudly at the center of the estate, with its winemaking operations based at La Pesanella, the charming villa located at the foot of the castle.

About the Wines

Castello Monterinaldi is a family-owned estate that has been cultivating its own vineyards and crafting exceptional wines since 1961. But we don’t just produce any wine—at Monterinaldi, we proudly focus on perfecting Chianti Classico, the legendary wine that has made Radda in Chianti and its surrounding area famous all over the world.
We’re at the forefront of innovation in winemaking, blending cutting-edge experimentation with a deep respect for traditional methods. Our passion for fine wines and delicious food is matched only by our love for nature and our commitment to honoring its natural rhythms.

An unexpected and pleasant experience
Choosing to go to this winery was an excellent and winning decision.
We didn't know of it and followed our instinct, but in the end everything was above our expectations.
Their Chianti Classico is excellent in both its aromas and taste, the location is magnificent, the lunch was excellent, and the staff is kind and welcoming.

Wine tasting and tour of the Castello Monterinaldi wine cellar
After a personal welcome with a glass of sparkling wine, we were guided through the wine production and received valuable information. Afterwards, we tasted wines from the winery during the excellent lunch in the historic main building.
The entire tour was to our complete satisfaction; the tour, food and wine, everything was great. We would like to thank the entire team of the winery once again for the personal and warm hospitality.

Excellent wine
It was very quiet and little difficult to find initially, but once we did it was awesome. We have great wine and bread & oil. We learnt some new things about Chianti and enjoyed ourselves!

Wine and a platter
Upon our arrival we were welcomed by the very kind Alessia, and we were immediately offered a welcome glass of rosé spumante.
Afterwards we began our tour of the estate with detailed explanations of the process of how the various types of wine are created.
Everything concluded with a tasting of their own wines accompanied by a good platter of local cold cuts and cheeses.
Overall an excellent experience!
As a suggestion, they could add outdoor tables for the tasting given the beautiful view.

Great food, venue, service and wines
The excellent 3 course lunch with wine pairings in a beautiful villa, knowledgeable and friendly staff from the moment we walked, we greatly enjoyed the experience.. the wines were well paired, the Classico reserve exceptional.

Tip: the winery is at the bottom of the valley, just off the main road… not the Castello Monterinaldi which is at the top of the ridge, 1km away… we went to the wrong place first, but at least had a lovely view….
