Located in central-southern Italy, Abruzzo is a great destination for wine lovers who are looking to combine wine tastings and winery visits with a holiday in of the largest naturalistic areas in Europe. The region extends from the Apennine mounts to the Adriatic sea and its territory is predominantly mountainous and wild, rich in national parks, nature reserves and suggestive medieval villages perched across its hills.

The majority of the wineries you will visit in Abruzzo can be found on the coastal hills and in some hilly areas of the hinterland, where the region’s wine production is concentrated. A visit to Abruzzo wouldn’t be complete without a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine tasting, one of the most famous wines of Italy and symbol of the region, often confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan wine made with Sangiovese grapes. Other renowned wines from Abruzzo include Pecorino, Passerina, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo. Currently, the region boasts in total 7 DOC, 2 DOCG and 8 IGT wines.
