Mastroberardino S.p.A.Mastroberardino family is living inside the socio-cultural wine world contest from two centuries, accordingly to the most reliable historical reconstructions. The first traces of its presence in Irpinia date back to the Bourbons land register, in the half of the Eighteenth century, when the family chose the town of Atripalda as its headquarter, where the ancient cellar is still located. There started an offspring that tied for ever the destiny of the future generations to the wine cult. Since then, ten generations led the family business, in always different circumstances, as it always happens in the stories of the most ancient family businesses. The family estates are all located in Irpinia, in the heart of the areas of production of the three DOCG: Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, Taurasi. They are distributed in several areas in order to save the identity, safeguard and development of the local varieties and vineyards. Historically, this has always been Mastroberardino main mission, for the protection of traditional wine values of the area, caring at the same time for innovation and developing of a modern interpretation of its own wines. This is the smart blend of ancient culture’s style and character together with most innovative and high quality technologies. The Mastroberardino family was almost alone in Irpinia defending this patrimony up into the 1990s. If nowadays the wines of this area have a definite legitimate place among the most exclusive and famous world productions, it is due to the perseverance and the enormous contribution to culture by Antonio Mastroberardino, who was able to represent in a masterly manner the connection between the roots of the ancient world and man’s unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Cantine Antonio CaggianoIt is one of the most spectacular wineries in Campania: you can walk astonished between tens of thousands of bottles arranged in recesses extracted from the stones walls. You can see everywhere the wine oaks where they make the great wines of Taurasi, such as Macchia dei Goti, Salae Domini and Taurì, perfect. The founder, Antonio Caggiano, has been for years a passionate and enthusiastic photographer travelling all around the world: from the cold of the Artic lands to the African desert, from the United States to South America and eventually from the old family vineyard (Salae Domini) to the works for the realization of his winery that began in 1990. Antonio decides to found his company pushed by an irrepressible desire to give voice to the history and traditions of his loved Taurasi. The distinctive trait of his spectacular winery is soon clear walking by the numerous fascinating small tunnels: it is not just a place in which barrels, bottles and vats are stored but a real museum of the viticulture. In every corner, on each wall and in the multiples recesses obtained from the stones walls, it is possible to see typical tools and utensils used by the winemakers. Together with the tools and the barrels, you can find a variety of wood, glass and stone artworks, some realized by Antonio himself and some others given as a gift by artist friends. They make the atmosphere even more evocative. Nowadays the company is run by Antonio’s son Giuseppe, called Pino by everyone who, helped by his father, thanks to a meticulous work in the vineyard and a passionate and precise wine interpretation, contributed to the achievement of a qualitative and characteristic style that has marked Antonio Caggiano’s company as a big interpreter of the Irpinia wines.

Casa di baalImmersa tra le colline salernitane si scorge, a circa 150 m di altitudine sul livello del mare, l'azienda agricola Casa di Baal da cui, con lo sguardo verso il mare, a sud si distingue la Piana del Sele e a nord la Costiera Amalfitana. Casa di Baal è un’ azienda agricola che nasce da una realtà familiare centenaria fatta di agricoltori, di amore e di dedizione per la terra e i suoi frutti. L’azienda è un connubio di tradizione e vitalità giovanile tra Annibale ed Anna, e i loro figli. La stessa denominazione Casa di Baal (intesa appunto “Casa di Annibale”) rappresenta un omaggio dei figli al fondatore Annibale, quale segno di attaccamento alle proprie radici e tradizioni ma anche di una spiccata inclinazione all’innovazione. Simbolo dell'azienda, l'elefantino richiama l'impresa di Annibale, abile generale cartaginese. Immersed in the Salernitan Hills, at 150 meters from sea-level, the azienda agricola Casa di Baal is located just a few kilometers from the Amalfi Coast. Casa di baal is an azienda agricola born from the experience of a century of traditional family of farmers entirely devoted to their land and its fruits. The azienda today is the ideal merger of secular tradition and young vitality formed among Annibale, Anna, and their children. The name itself, Casa di Baal (the “House of Annibale”) represents an homage to the the founder Annibale from this children. It is not only a symbol of attachment to roots and traditions, but also one that represnts strong inclination to innovation. The logo of the Azienda is an elephant that symbolizes the deeds of Annnibale, skilful general from Carthage.

Villa MatildeIn 2009, the Anno Internazionale del Pianeta Terra (International Year of Planet earth), Villa Matilde launched its “Zero Emissions” project, a comprehensive programme of environmental sustainability, with the objective of progressively reducing greenhouse gasses and of producing wine in an eco-compatible way. The project addressed the totality of the winery’s production and management activities through a series of integrated interventions, ranging from work in the vineyards to final distribution. The first actions were directed at water recovery and electrical savings, achieved through an overall facility recalibration and the exploitation of alternative energy sources. Villa Matilde currently operates with a composite system of solar panels with the partial support of a traditional electrical grid. The use of alternative energy is one of the project’s key features. 339 solar panels were installed on six of the winery buildings --without harming the overall harmony of the landscape--, capable of producing 100,00 kw of clean energy per year, thus avoiding the emission of 73 tonnes of CO2 per year. Particular attention is being paid to reusing the irrigation and cleaning water. Highly-insulating construction materials are being used, and preference given to natural ventilation systems to reduce electrical consumption. All of the winery buildings have been painted with a special white paint to compensate for global warming and the consequent greenhouse effect, and new trees have been planted to increase oxygen emission.
