In the mid-1950s, António Ribeiro and his wife Maria do Céu began their agricultural journey with the acquisition of Quinta de S. Tiago, featuring an 18th-century manor house, in Vila Marim, and Quinta da Portela in Barqueiros, both located in the municipality of Mesão Frio near the first Pombaline landmark of the Douro Demarcated Region. By 1980, their daughter Teresinha Ribeiro, along with her husband Eduardo Miranda, began the process of converting the vineyards. Initially, the family's strategy was to sell their production to exporters and reserve small quantities for local consumption. Their sons — Roberto, Ricardo, Rafael, and Rudolfo — later became involved, each completing academic training primarily focused on management and viticulture, gradually shaping the family’s continued dedication to the land and its wines.

Quinta Nova Luxury Winery House
(Winery in Viseu)

4.6 (5 Reviews)
Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of extreme beauty in the heart of Douro valley and owned by Amorim family since 1999. The family connection to the wine comes from afar, through its connection with the export houses of Vila Nova de Gaia in the cork business. Meanwhile the dream came true and the project is now in the hands of the 4th generation of the family. With a story longer than 250 years, the property displays conserved structures and the cellar original building from 1764, after interventions by the architect Arnaldo Barbosa. But the «quinta» is much earlier than this and history confirms it as a great land belonging to the Portuguese Royal House, having been identified its first owner in 1725. The winery produced more than 3,500 barrels of wine from neighboring estates and it was soon 'integrated in the first demarcation of the region'. The historic sites that are still preserved give notice to this historic weight. An entrepreneur spirit and family vision did however the difference because, combined with a passionate commitment to the future, determined the beginning of multiple changes to a path of oenological excellence.

At Quinta do Tedo, bringing together traditions from Burgundy and California, proprietors Vincent Bouchard and Kay Steffey Bouchard have revitalized a venerable winery and created new distinctive Portos and Douro wines. Our traditional closely-spaced planting (3.3 x 5 feet, or 1.10 x 1.6 meters) on steep terraces of rocky schist soil includes eighteen varietals of red grape, dominated by Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa. The vineyards are divided into five parcels, each separately vinified. The average age of our grapevines is thirty years, and their yield of 1.5 tons per acre (27 - 30 hectolitres per hectare) creates very concentrated flavors in the wine. Determined to provide an environmentally sound future for our children and for our customers, we are among the first Porto producers to practice what is called culture raisonable (responsible and sustainable agricultural practices), and in July 2010 our winery will become certified organic This means that we control the type of products and the amounts that we can apply to the vineyards. The soil, the plants and the grapes are periodically tested to ensure we are maintaining this high standard.

In 2003, Zeca obtained his “piece ” of the Douro and bought his Quinta which at the time was called Quinta do Vidiedo, located in Adorigo – Tabuaço. The winery is situated in one of the oldest wine regions in the world, home to all his childhood memories. He invested all his economic effort, dedication and perseverance by acquiring small plots of vineyards, mostly old, as well as planting new vines and olive groves. These vines were blessed by the quality of soil and built in terraces above the splendor of the Douro River. In 2010, the dreamer then placed both his children – Stéphane and Vanessa Ferreira’s – feet on the Douro, keen to involve them in a desire to produce excellent wines under Pôpa’s signature. Zeca do Pôpa showed his children the magic that this terroir held, either through the production of fine wines, or by the Douro’s natural beauty and tradition. In 2012, Quinta do Pôpa opened its doors to the public, encouraged by friends and family to do so. The welcoming of each visitor remains informal and intimate with the aim of sharing the history and highlighting the people who reflect the character of the Pôpa wine. + info/ http://www.quintadopopa.com/en/about/
