5 Educating experience (Irene)I recently visited the winery with a group of friends. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the facilities were and the equipment was all new. Our guide spoke perfect English and had vast knowledge in the wine making field. He was happy to explain in depth each of the different wine making methods and techniques, answering any questions thoroughly. We sampled several different types of wine throughout the fermentation process and could taste and see the difference between newly started wine and wines along the route to maturity. After the tour, we sampled the finished wines along with some Italian meats and cheeses. All together a very enjoyable and educational experience that I enjoyed and recommend. Thank you!

4 Beautiful tastingroom (Agnese)We met the very knowledgeable guide to our tasting in their beautiful tasting room. The wines were interesting, and our guide made us feel the land and the labor in the wines. The food was really good and tasty. The view uphill to Assisi was stunning as you moved only a few steps from the tasting room. Everything was very clean, and the place is easily reached by car, only a few minutes downhill from Assisi.. We really recommend this place if you’re in to tasting wines that are more than average.

5 Lovely, small, family winery offering great value for money. (Tiziana)The family were very welcoming and helpful, describing the wines and supplying us with generous glasses of wine. The wines were all really lovely and there was no problem when we asked to have more if the rise instead of the last red. The bruschetta was lovely too.

5 Amazing Experience! (Rossi)Absolutely lovely time! Danielle showed us around his vineyards, estates and cellar. He was very knowledgeable and exceedingly kind. We were treated so well, my wife was worried about much I had spent! The price was incredibly reasonable and Danielle’s wines were delicious. We took home both of the reds. Cannot recommend this enough. Danielle and his wife made us feel like so much more than customers. Beautiful views, great wines, you will not be disappointed.

5 Wine experience (Giulio)The wine tour and tasting was amazing. The family history was so nice to see, as the granddaughter was giving the tour. She had such knowledge about the history, the wines, the distribution and just an overall good hostess. We even had a little extra guest, Umbra the family’s dog who followed us around too through the site. The grounds were beautiful and it was so nice and peaceful being there. You had such a great view of Orvieto from the main house and the wines were amazing. We kept comparing every wine we had after that day, back to this one. The food pairings were amazing too! Thank you so much!

5 Top Class Event - delightfully presented. (La Fonte di Bevagna)Giulia was a most gracious and helpful host. She and her family exemplify the dedicated artisanal craft of wine and olive oil production in proper organic conditions and it shows in their love for their produce. She offered a wonderful description of the wines, the viniculture and the care they all invest in creating such a high quality range of good wine. We were treated to samples of the range along with some delicious antipasti which only helped enhance the joy of the tasting experience. We were a party of 12 and we were all delighted with our authentic italian enodegustazione. Full marks to Giulia and do please make the journey to Bevagna and visit this charming boutique winery.

5 The Perfect Wine-Tasting Experience (Annalaura)The tour was detailed and interesting, catering to the novice and experienced wine taster. The vineyard's family values were really highlighted throughout the tour, giving a clear portrait of the character of the winemakers--what a wonderful addition to the tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, answering every question in detail. She was clearly experienced and education in the entire process and expertly guided our group with an accessible, down-to-earth description of everything. Once we arrived at the tasting room, the service and attention to detail was excellent. Our tour guide and the other employees tended to our group with great care, assuring that we had all we needed. The food paired with the wine was delicious! Every item was intentionally chosen to showcase the wines, and our tour guide explained all of this to us clearly. At the end of the tasting, we were given the opportunity to buy some wine (and other products), but this was more of an invitation, not an expectation. Overall, this was the most enjoyable wine-tasting experience I've had. I highly recommend this winery and tour!

5 Exceptional Wines with A View (Denise)We (2 adults, 1 child) had a wonderful first visit to Perticaia! We visited on a beautiful April afternoon. The drive to the vineyard was breathtaking. We started with a tour of the property, its history, and thorough lesson on winemaking. We then tasted five extraordinary wines (1 white, 1 rose, 3 reds) and then received a bonus taste of an older vintage. I would recommend carving out a good amount (2-3 hours) of time to enjoy the wines. Definitely a highlight of our trip and can’t wait to return!

5 Delightful Experience (ADELAIDE)We chose the winery tour, and wine tasting with "light lunch." The setting is idyllic and the service and responses to questions were wonderful. We were very impressed with the quality and affordability of the wines; the pairings highlighted them nicely. The food was really top notch, but we were served more courses than we expected (not that we're complaining). My tip to anyone who chooses this experience: "Have a light breakfast!"

Umbria: Good to know

What visit in Umbria?

Umbria is the only region in central Italy whose borders are not bathed by the Mediterranean sea. Despite this, Umbria’s territory holds a great charm thanks to its green hills dotted with vineyards and olive trees, fascinating old villages and artistic richness. In this region, you will be able to enjoy various wine tastings while visiting its wineries tucked away in the countryside.

During your visits to Umbria’s wineries, you will have the opportunity to dive into the region’s winemaking traditions. While the quality of wines was already recognized amongst the Romans, it was in the 1960s that viticulture in Umbria started gaining importance again with the recognition of the region’s first DOC wine, Torgiano, then recognized as Torgiano Rosso Riserva DOCG in 1990. The region boasts also another DOCG wine, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG, as well as 12 DOC and 6 IGT wines.

Which food to taste in Umbria?

While in Umbria, you will learn that the key ingredient of its traditional cuisine is simplicity. During your wine tastings in this region, you will often be offered a taste of other products made by the wineries, such as their very own extra virgin olive oil. We also recommend tasting a few of Umbria’s most traditional dishes, like torta al testo (a sort of flatbread), strangozzi with Norcia’s truffle, pappardelle with hare ragù, cardoon Parmigiana and porchetta.

Which wines to taste in Umbria?

Your wine tastings in Umbria will most likely include both red and white wines, as the region’s wine production is almost equally divided between the two. Within its rather small territory, Umbria boasts 17.000 hectares of vineyards characterized by a small yield to hectare ratio, which is usually a sign of high quality. The most widespread white grape variety in Umbria is Grechetto, followed by Trebbiano Toscano, Malvasia Bianca, Verdello, Canaiolo Bianco and Procanico. The most common red grape varieties are instead Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo Nero, Montepulciano, Barbera and Sagrantino. Some international grape varieties are found in the region’s territory as well, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Riesling.

Which is the best season to visit Umbria?

You can book wine tastings and winery visits in Umbria across all seasons. Summer is indicated for those wine lovers who want to explore the Umbrian countryside on the back of a horse or on a mountain bike, while spring and autumn are preferred by those who want to visit Umbria’s cities and medieval towns.

What things to do in Umbria?

During your time in Umbria, don’t limit yourself to visiting its wineries. A few of the region’s highlights that are worth seeing include Perugia, famous for its Baci, Assisi and its San Francesco church, Orvieto and its cathedral, Spoleto, the small town of Gubbio and its main square and the suggestive Marmore Falls.

How much does a wine tasting with winery tour in Umbria cost?
