5 Fantastic relaxed winery hospitality (Pedro)Big thanks to the folks at Quinta da Portela who were both friendly and knowledgeable. We were walked through the onsite museum and learned about the multi-generation history of this winery; interesting to see artifacts of the wine business and how equipment has changed across the decades. The great pleasure of our visit was a wonderfully relaxed and leisurely seated tour of their sparkling, still and fortified wines as well as their olive oil. These were deftly accompanied by delicious local food products both savoury and sweet on their hilltop outdoor patio. Highly recommended!

3 Wine tasting with a crowd ()The pros: the woman leading the tasting was friendly and knowledgeable about the wine and winery. The winery was beautiful and in a nice setting. The cons: a very large group ( 15-20 people) joined our group of 4. They were 20 minutes late so we had to wait for them. A few minutes late is ok, beyond that the tour/ tasting should have started without them. Once we arrived at the tasting room, they brought in 5 plates with cheese, meats and olives to share among the group. Toothpicks were provided so no one needed to touch the food directly. The large group ignored the toothpicks and grabbed everything with their hands. With the flu and covid still active, not a smart thing to do. My biggest objection was how the tasting was handled. It was more like a social hour at a bar. The woman running the tour walked around with the wine and poured the tastings to individual groups that were talking . Unfortunately when the group asked a question, no one else could hear the question so we couldn’t benefit from the conversation that they were having. After 3-5 minutes she would move on to the next group. Same thing happened, questions were asked which she answered to that group. None of the other participants in the tasting could hear the questions or answers. Finally after waiting for about 10 minutes she would talk to our group, pour the wine and spend a few minutes with us. This routine would start all over with the next wine. I don’t think that we, as a group of 4 received more than 10 minutes of her time or knowledge about Portugal wine. Considering the cost of the tour, I expected more interaction and information. At the end of the tour, nothing was mentioned about buying any wine before we left so we left without any purchases. Pretty disappointed in the tour. I could have learned as much or more at a wine store for a whole lot less money.

5 Paxa wines (Vanessa)Our trip to Paxa wines was amazing! Vanessa our tour guide gave us a great, really in depth tour of the vinyard and the wine we tried was fantastic! Stand out for me was the Sauv Blanc, it's no surprise it's one of there best sellers! 5/5 would recommend - great way to spend an afternoon in the Algarve

5 Nice experience (Maura)The wine tasting was a small intimate experience with one of the brothers, Rafael. he reached out to us the day before our original tour & asked to reschedule to Saturday. Having only limited time in the Douro valley, we changed our schedule & other tours to accommodate him so that we would not lose out on the experience. Since we changed it to Saturday night, I felt like he really did not want to be there. It was clear he did not have any other tours scheduled. It was only us. I felt like we were rushed and he just wasn’t into it. It was very matter of fact. We travel to different wine countries every year, Spain, Greece, Italy, always shipping 12+ wines back. I was interested in purchasing wines and going over more wines, but he was not. Sadly we did not make a purchase. Instead, we visited another vineyard on our way out the following day. Had a great experience and made our purchase there..

5 Very fun for a group (Sandra)I went with a group of friends for the tasting with the chocolates and we had a blast. The waitress was very friendly and easy to make jokes with which was a big plus! We sat outside and had a nice view of the Douro and the riverfront on the other side. The experience you get for what you pay, also more than fair so I can only recommend this establishment.

4 Excellent wine tasting with below-average outsourced lunch (Norma)We booked a "Wine Tasting & Regional Meal at Quinta de Santa Cristina" package. To start with the good - After the lunch we went to the winery and had an AMAZING time, it did not disappoint. I wish that we had booked only the wine tasting, I even would have paid the same price to not have the local lunch. The information that our guide Sofia gave us was very in depth and she explained it so well and made us feel very welcome as she explained about the processes, the different grapes and the history of the wineyard and the family. The tasting itself was fantastic and we were given a small charcuterie board which was already much better than the local lunch. We tried 4 wines which were delicious, and we did not feel pressured to buy any wines directly. It was around a 1 hour drive from where we were staying in Braga and easy to navigate to as well as to park. If the review was only for the winery I would have given it 5 stars. The less good - The pre-booking was quite confusing as it was advertised as 3 hours, however the timings of the local lunch were not well factored into this, and in fact our lunch was at 1pm with the tasting from 3pm onwards. The local lunch was quite disappointing, from arriving at the restaurant we already felt we were an inconvience to the staff at the restaurant, and the food was not to our taste. We wanted to try the more local specialities but were disappointed with both the starter and the main, the octopus was quite mushy as if it had been frozen and quickly defrosted and the dessert as well of chocolate mousse was not good.

5 Mainova: a wine fresco (Pedro)it was a nice experience, finding the place protected by camera and steel doors ... leading to a warming and personalized welcome by Pedro as we were, with my wife the only visitors, therefore it was a private appointment in the wine estate under an August burning sun! giant fresco and fine pieces of decoration in the cellar show the refine taste of the 'mas nova' daughter who is the creator of this 'terroir'

5 Magnific experince (Joana)A wonderful experience: a visit to the vineyards, the estate, and the cellar, enriched with many anecdotes and curiosities about the family’s history and the area. The guide was very knowledgeable, and to conclude, an excellent tasting with delicious local cheeses paired with their organic wines — truly a fine package of sensations.

4 Beautiful Quinta (Marta )We had a tour and winetasting. The location inside and outside is beautiful. The tourguide was very nice and explained a lot. The winetasting was nice as well with some cheeses etc. We bought some bottles and enjoyed them again at home. She informed about a buggy tour over their terrain which I think we will try as well one day as it sounded great. Overall a great experience for a small day trip in the Ribatejo.
