5 An idyllic visit (Richard)We had a wonderful afternoon, thanks to the warm hospitality of the family. We enjoyed a selection of red, white and rosé wines with our host, the nephew of the current owner, who gave us a fascinating insight into the wines, the vineyard and his family’s fascinating history. It was fascinating to hear about the generations of the family who have been involved with the vineyard and to enjoy a short tour of the vines themselves. We finished the afternoon with a delicious glass of wine and a charcuterie board while taking in the beautiful views across the valley. A genuinely memorable and personal experience, and I would highly recommend taking the time to visit this vineyard.

4 Trip in the wineyard and a great tasting (Bohlbro)We started with a walk in the wineyard and god a good knowledge of how this winemaker works making bio wine. Afterwards a great tasting of all there wines, telling the background of the production. We also tasted some gin and vermouth. A good wineyasting in english

5 Great experience, great wine (Maik)Thank you very much for your very kind hospitality and showing us all about your amazing wine work. The visit was very informative and interesting. The winery is very clean and structured. The winery and the tasting shop are in a contemporary renovated vintage building. It is situated on a plot of land that is very well-maintained on all sides. The wine itself is produced without artificial additives, fertilizers, or pesticides. You can really taste the difference! Excellent wine; even restaurateurs buy there. We were pleasantly surprised by the tour we booked. Even though we had booked during the peak holiday season, we were taken on a private tour with no other guests. The guide took a generous amount of time for us and our questions.

5 A Toast to Family Tradition (Sandra)From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by beautifully sloping, terraced vineyards surrounding a charming estate whose historic buildings date back to 1732. We tasted six wines from different harvests, each with its own character. Our favourite was undoubtedly the dry white, with its crisp finish and beautifully clean palate. We also thoroughly enjoyed the late-harvest wine, whose rich sweetness reminded us of a fine sherry perfect for sipping on a cold winter's evening. What made this visit truly memorable was being guided by one of the family members. As they shared the story of the estate, we came to appreciate the dedication, resilience, and hard work that go into preserving a family tradition. In today's world, where it is often easier to move on from manual work, choosing to stay, nurture the land, and continue a family's legacy is something deeply admirable. Visiting small, family-run wineries is always special because you leave with more than just great wine you leave with a genuine appreciation for the people behind every bottle. The team also arranged shipping for our wines, making it easy to enjoy them again once we're home. Kudos to the entire team, and thank you for such a memorable experience. The wonderful thing about wine tasting is that you always leave smiling, but this visit also left us with a deeper appreciation for the passion and perseverance that fill every glass.

5 A lovely wine experience in Vingrau (Jacqueline)This was a great tasting for three of us. The lovely tasting room was ready when we arrived. We tried 7 different wines and got each one we were told it’s “story” and had appropriate accompaniments - cheese, charcuterie or chocolate!! The wines are delicious and so reasonably priced. I wish we could have bought more but no car! The best of all was our host who was so knowledgeable and hospitable. The whole experience was well worth the small fee. Thank you

5 Something different and very authentic! (Kim Holmberg)Wine tasting at Chateau Boutinet was an amazing experince. The tour was quite different from the tastings we have tried before and started with a walk through the vinyards learning about how to run a bio-based wine production, challenges, and solutions. And just listening to good stories and tales from the neighborhood and rules of Bordeaux wines in general. After the tour, we were all placed around a table in the garden where great wines were served in a very informal way accompanied by delicious local snacks. We stayed talking, relaxing and enjoying the company for more than 4 hours.

Our host was exceptionally welcoming and knowledgeable, taking the time to explain everything clearly in English, which made the experience even more enjoyable and accessible. The wine tasting was a real highlight. The wines were excellent, showcasing the quality and character of the estate, and we were delighted to purchase several bottles to take home with us. What impressed us even further was learning about the exciting vision for the future of the château. The ongoing restoration project is clearly being undertaken with great passion and care, and it was inspiring to hear about the development of the venue for weddings and special events. The gîte accommodation also looked charming and would make a fantastic base for exploring the region. This was much more than a wine tasting—it was a warm, personal, and memorable experience hosted by people who genuinely care about sharing their passion for wine and the château. We would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area and would happily return in the future.

5 An afternoon of tasting beneath the trees (Vicky)Around half an hour’s drive east of Blaye, Château Lapourcaud dates back to 1883 but has been recently revived to its former glory by owner-vigneron Vincent Gas. Under normal circumstances, Vincent would have got us involved in the vineyard: learning about the process by doing a little pruning or harvesting. But Mother Nature had other ideas, with temperatures soaring into the mid-30s, demanding we find shade after about ten minutes. Not to worry: in the château’s gardens, we sat beneath the trees and enjoyed a tasting of six different bottles, alongside a multitude of local cheeses, foie gras and magret de canard. My personal favourite was Château Lapourcaud’s own 2023 blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, which was bright and light on its feet. But we also tasted Vincent’s brother’s white and red blends from just down the road, as well as some other wines from the local cooperative of which Château Lapourcaud is a member. If I could pick one tasting note that carried through every wine we tried, it would be: “peppery” – which says something about the region’s terroir. I’m already a planning a second visit, and next time I hope it’ll be cool enough to do a little work in the vineyard!

3 Guinot wine tasting (Neil)Very informative tour. Only 4 of us. Wine samples were very small though, less than a shot of each wine. Had to stand up in reception for tasting and interrupted by other customers. Would have been far nicer sat down in the gardens giving full attention to us doing the sampling. Although we booked English tour, a lot of the video was in french only.

The residence has an interesting history right back to Roman times, and has been in the same family since at least 1750. (Megan)We had an amazing tour, it ended up just being the two of us as we went out of season but it meant that it felt even more personal walking around the beautiful property and vineyards. We also booked the wine and chocolate option and felt that the flavours and notes of the wines and how they paired with each chocolate was very interesting. Of course, we had to buy a bottle to drink later! We would love to come back during the warmer months.
